MBS Zero Waste, Part 1
Did you know that all of our accessories are completely Zero Waste? But, what does Zero Waste mean? Zero Waste, as defined by the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA) means: "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒓𝒆𝒖𝒔𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒔, 𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒏𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅, 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓, 𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉."In the case of our products, it means the recovery and up-cycling of every inch of the fabric we use in our apparel collection. It can also mean the re-use of our dye vats, conserving water and recovering dye-stuff by designing around the color outcomes achieved with secondary and tertiary dips in the same formula (where color, shade and tone will be different). Some of those vats are created through recovery of materials that are the natural byproducts of other industries (saw dust, food waste and more) where we pay to collect these goods, diverting them from the landfill, and then formulate dyes with them to tint our collection. In this way, some of our products are Zero Waste three times over - having been made with recovered fabric, re-used natural dye vats, and recovered natural dye materials.
