When we held a panel last year with Benita Singh of Nest, she shared that in China, there is a saying that if you want to know the Pantone color of the year, all you have to do is look at the color of the rivers. This phrase resurfaced in River Blue, where activist Orsola de Castro shares the same sentiment: "there is a joke in China that you can tell the 'it' color of the season by looking at the color of the rivers."

There is no more immediate way to convey the impact of fast fashion and the cost to people and planet. And it's not just fast fashion at fault. Brands in all sectors of the market enjoy the advantage of low-cost labor in conditions intentionally kept opaque.
