The Women Behind the Scenes

Meet the Team

MBS is a woman-owned and independently operated company based in Austin, TX. The goods we create are designed, dyed, cut, sewn, and shipped within Austin City Limits by the individuals you see here.

Veronica L., Production Manager

My favorite thing about working at MBS would be a tie between our plant dye practices and the team. Both bring so much life to my day to day. Thinking back to what drew me to fashion, it honestly felt like it grew from a desperate need to escape terrible high school uniforms and also watching my mom on her sewing machine!

Thang Z., Production Associate

I am from Myanmar and when I moved to the US, I took a sewing class with a local non-profit and I quickly developed my skills and became a team leader. My favorite thing about working at MBS is getting the opportunity to learn new designs and working with the kind people in our team. Outside of sewing, I love to sing and cook.

Katie J., Dye & Production Assistant

A Texas girl through and through, I studied fashion merchandising and international studies at the University of North Texas where I learned about the negative aspects of the fashion industry which then led me to obtain my M.S. in Sustainability Studies at Texas State University. The genuine passion MBS has for sustainability makes the work I do so fulfilling and every day I learn something new.

Cristal M., Production Specialist

Growing up in Corpus Christi, my Dad would bring me the most beautiful dolls when he would come back from business trips to Mexico. They were all so unique and handmade, I think that’s when I fell in love with textiles and their construction. Outside of producing garments for MBS, I love to garden, spend time with family and friends, travel, and cook new dishes.

Gabby W, Flagship Associate

My favorite thing about working at MBS is helping people find pieces that make them feel excited in a way they weren't expecting to when they visit the flagship! I am so impressed that MBS continues to strive to be as size inclusive as possible. A native of Austin, I love spending time gardening, camping, baking, playing with my pets, and visiting museums.

Abbey S., Dye Studio Manager

Originally from Houston, TX, my mom has always had funky taste so I started wearing her clothes in middle school. To be fair, I was also wearing my dad's clothes a lot too & still wear them regularly. I like stuff that doesn't strictly adhere to trends and I think MBS embodies that. My favorite part of my day to day is getting my hands dirty, experimenting, and of course this team.

Sara A., Flagship Associate

I love the intentionality behind everything we do at MBS. There is so much thought behind every design, every dye, and every interaction. The colors are gorgeous, the fits are flattering, and the ethos is spot on. When I'm not at the store you can find me making chocolate as I'm an aspiring small batch chocolate maker!

Hailey W., Flagship Manager

I'm from a small town outside of Corpus Christi, Texas called Calallen - if you've heard of it, we probably went to high school together. MBS brings much-needed depth, warmth, and intention to the fashion industry and I love sharing the details about the natural dye techniques with our community. I view each piece of clothing as a work of art.

Alexis S., Marketing Director

I was thrown into fashion months after graduating high school in the era of deep v-necks and zip-up hoodies. Through working in the samples dept., and then the photo dept., I immediately fell in love with the creative process of it all from start to finish. As the newbie of the team, I feel like I've hit the jackpot with this company and team of brilliant women.

Miranda B., Creative Director

I was born in Austin, TX, then moved to South East Asia and CA with my family before returning at 12. I was always drawn to fashion from the perspective of a maker, making clothing for my dolls, and, by high school, for myself. I love knowing that every item we make here at the studio has passed through the hands of all of these incredible women - it's truly the honor of my career to work alongside them.

Sarah G, Sales Director

When I turned 30 there were so many signs that it was time to make fashion a more significant part of my life. Working at MBS allows me to combine my two passions - relationship building and clothes! I love getting to witness every part of producing our apparel. But I have to say my favorite thing is the team. It's been incredible working with a group of empathetic, goofy, and creative women.

Xochi S., Flagship Associate

All bodies deserve to feel good in clothes and when I walk into MBS to work for the day, it brings me joy to know that we have something for everybody. I love being able to invite our clientele to explore the legacy & wonder of plant-based dyes mixed with our approach to zero-waste design. Outside of my work at MBS, I am a mixed media artist, the board president of Future Front Texas and I manage and spin records with the Austin chapter of Chulita Vinyl Club.

Maple L., Studio Receptionist

I especially love greeting all my colleagues every day with a friendly 'woof'. All the pets and pats are a major plus as well. The occasional visits from my doggo friends Riley and Blue Jeans also really makes my tail wag.

Riley & Blue Jeans, Doggo Friends

We are only at the Studio on a part-time basis, so we really like to make our presence felt when we are. From goosing to playing fetch (and begging to play fetch), we help bring a healthy dose of levity and distraction to the entire team.
